On October 29, 1994, an ATR 72 operated by Birgenair, flight 301, crashed after takeoff from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, killing all 189 people on board.

On December 19, 1997, an ATR 72 operated by Lao Aviation, flight 703, crashed in Laos, killing all 49 people on board.

On January 4, 2002, an ATR 72 operated by Garuda Indonesia, flight GA-421, crashed in Medan, Indonesia, killing all 234 people on board.

On July 2007, an ATR 72 operated by Aeroperú, flight 603, crashed after takeoff from Jorge Chávez International Airport, Lima, Peru, killing all 46 people on board

On June 30, 2016, an ATR 72-600 operated by TransAsia Airways, flight GE235, crashed into the Keelung River shortly after takeoff from Taipei Songshan Airport, Taiwan, killing 43 of the 58 people on board.

On October 29, 2016, an ATR 72 operated by Chapecoense Real football team, flight 2933, crashed near Medellín, Colombia, killing 71 of the 77 people on board.

On May 18, 2018, an ATR 72-600 operated by US-Bangla Airlines, flight BS211, crashed while landing at Tribhuvan International Airport, Kathmandu, Nepal, killing 51 of the 71 people on board.

On October 29, 2018, an ATR 72-600 operated by Lion Air, flight JT-610, crashed into the Java Sea shortly after takeoff from Jakarta, Indonesia, killing all 189 people on board.
